Volunteer Broadcast System Description
Volunteer Broadcast System (VBS)The volunteer broadcast system is an app specially built to facilitate Food from the Heart's volunteers in performing their volunteering missions.
1. Register and deregister for a specific bread collection assignment
Volunteers can deregister a specific route and date that they are not able to fulfill. Other volunteers whose homes are in close proximity to this route will automatically be notified immediately through the app. Available volunteers can then sign up for the collection route via the app. The app includes useful features that will make it easier for volunteers to sign-up for the route.
2. Navigate to Location
The app uses GPS to detect a user’s current location and also contains a navigation map and driving instructions based on the most efficient route to help the volunteers find their way to the bakeries and the beneficiaries. These information is provided with the use of OneMap. This will reduce situations of the volunteers getting lost while servicing the route.
3. Reporting
The app will enable volunteers to report the bread collection information easily.
4. Added Help Features
Volunteers will also be able to check carpark rates. The carpark rates are being pulled from the LTA feed from data.gov.sg.
About Us
Food from the Heart(FFTH) is non-profit organisation that was founded in 2003. It started the Bread Distribution Programme that send volunteers to collect unsold bread from bakeries and hotels. It also started four other community programmes reaching out to the needy family and children with the support of volunteers from all walks of life.
Bread Distribution Programme
The volunteers are scheduled to perform a bread rescue mission for an assigned route once a week while there are other volunteers who help with adhoc collections when regular volunteers are not able to fulfill their regular duties. Volunteers use their own vehicles and resources to deliver the bread directly to welfare homes, children’s homes, senior citizens’ homes, senior activity centres and other needy families island-wide.
