Guardian Details
Guardian monitors the location and acceleration sensors of smartphone and sends the following security-related alerts to a selected SMS number: 1) Impact (car collisions, motorcycle falls, severe stair falls, etc.); and 2) Location outside areas that are considered safe.
The SMS sent by Guardian contains a link that indicates the user's location when the security alert was transmitted.
Guardian also send text messages with the user's location: 1) If the emergency button (PANIC) is pressed three times; 2) If the location button (I AM HERE!) is pressed once; and 3) Automatically, at the selected time interval, while the user is outside the areas that are considered to be safe.
Guardian will only monitor impact, if the user is outside areas that are considered safe.
HOW TO USE GUARDIAN: 1) Set up impact and location alerts by pressing the SETUP button. 2) Enable text messages by pressing the START MONITORING button.
SETTING INSTRUCTIONS: The user configures the application with the following information: 1) User's phone number; 2) Phone number that will receive the alerts via SMS; 3) Update interval to receive SMS with location links, when the user is outside safe areas; 4) Deceleration that will activate the impact alert; and 5) Two areas that are considered safe: Area 1 and Area 2.
NOTE: 1) The location links sent by SMS can be opened by Internet browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer) installed on the smartphone that will receive the SMS. 2) Guardian requires the activation of WiFi location services of the smartphone. It is not necessary to be connected to a WiFi network. Simply activate the WiFi services and the application will determine the user's location based on the WiFi networks identified by the smartphone. The application will automatically shut down if the WiFi location services are disabled. 3) The definition of each Safe Area consists of the latitude and longitude of its center and of its radius. Due to the inaccuracy of the WiFi locators, Guardian adopts a minimum radius of 1000 feet. 4) The user can get the latitude and longitude directly from the application screen, positioning himself at the center of each Safe Area. The accuracy of the WiFi location displayed on the screen should be preferably less than 150 feet. If there is interest in defining the Safe Areas in advance, the location of their centers can be obtained by using the software Google Earth. 5) It is recommended that the user checks, on the main screen of the application, the maximum acceleration value recorded on a typical day and adjust the acceleration limit in a manner consistent with his routine. Guardian will not accept settings below 2 g. 6) Impact and Panic alarms are reset after 15 seconds and 60 minutes, respectively. 7) The minimum time between alerts of location outside Safe Areas is 10 minutes. 8) The user's location is updated approximately every 20 seconds. 9) To minimize the likelihood of erroneous alerts, the Guardian waits about one minute before indicating that the user has entered or left the Safe Areas.
